Financial assistance is awarded for one year at a time. Separate applications must be filed each year after January
1st. Two documents are essential:
• Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA); be sure to
include HSU's code (003571)
• Federal Student Aid Report (SAR)
The SAR is mailed to the student four to six weeks after the FAFSA is completed and processed by the federal
processor. The FAFSA may be obtained from the Office of Enrollment Services. Priority is given
to files completed by March 1. Since financial aid at HSU is awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis,
it is important to complete the application process early. Application materials are available in January for
the
coming academic year (Fall,
Spring, Summer).
Application materials mailed late in the cycle will still be processed; however, there may simply be less
aid available to meet your need. The FAFSA may be completed on the web at www.fafsa.ed.gov,
or mailed in the special
pre-addressed envelope provided. When the Student Aid Report is received, the student must check it for errors,
(if you make any corrections or if your application was selected for verification, complete the certification
section on the back of Part 2) and send the entire SAR to the Office of Enrollment Services. Electronic corrections
are faster than mailing the form back to the federal processor. No award packages may be processed until valid
data is received in the Office of Enrollment Services. Funds are awarded only to students who are approved
for admission or eligible returning students.
