RN-BSN Articulation Program
Admission Requirements
Before being admitted to the nursing program, a student must be admitted to Hardin-Simmons University or one of the other consortium universities and satisfy the admission requirements of that university. A separate admission process is required for students to be admitted to the Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing.

The selection process for admission to PHSSN is based on your cumulative GPA of all schools attended (on a 4.0 scale). The admissions committee will review all applicants with a minimum cumulative point average (GPA) of 2.50 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants seeking admission by transfer must meet all the standards required by the university. Nursing core courses completed with a letter grade less than C will not be accepted toward the RN-BSN Articulation Program.

In addition to the PHSSN nursing curriculum, students will be required to complete all remaining general education credits (after transfer credits have been applied). Transfer credits will be based upon the University Registrar’s review of all final, official transcripts.

All students accepted to the RN Articulation Program are required to have:

  1. A current Texas RN License and in good standing with the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners.
  2. Current CPR certification, including infant, child, one and two man adult.
  3. A current physical examination (form provided by PHSSN with acceptance letter).
  4. Proof of successful completion of a Physical Assessment Course or register for Health Assessment.
  5. Successfully pass the NLN RN Mobility Examination (ACE II) administered by the School of Nursing. Successful completion of examination will earn 29 hours of upper-division nursing credit. The examination must be taken prior to the fall semester in which the registered nurse will enter the School of Nursing. It is highly recommended that students take the Mobility exam before starting any of their work for the baccalaureate degree. Exams are also available for additional course credit within the curriculum in the following areas; Health Assessment, Pharmacology, and Pathophysiology.
  6. Associate of Science in Nursing or Diploma from accredited program.
  7. 25% of remaining courses needed for degree at Hardin-Simmons University. (McMurry University also requires 25% of remaining courses, and Abilene Christian University requires a minimum of 34 hours of credit completed in residence.)
  8. Internationally educated nurses must have TOEFL scores of:
IELTS: Overall score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 all modules
TOEFL written: Overall score of 560
TOEFL CBT: Overall score of 220
TOEFL iBT: Overall score of 83
