Marcia Straughn

Marcia R. Straughn serves as adjunct flute instructor at Abilene Christian and Hardin-Simmons Universities. She performs with the Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra, the Abilene Chamber Players, and the Abilene Opera Association. Straughn won second prize in the 2003 Young Artist Competition sponsored by the Flute Society of Kentucky, has been a semifinalist in the Myrna W. Brown and Flute Talk Young Artist Competitions, and is a past winner of the Abilene Collegiate Artist Competition. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Abilene Christian University and a Masters in Music Performance from Hardin-Simmons University. Her teachers have included Mary Karen Clardy, Helen Blackburn, and Judith Bentley, and she has performed in masterclasses with artists such as Geoffrey Gilbert, Marzio Conti, and Keith Underwood. Straughn has participated in the Wildacres Flute Symposium as both a solo performer and chamber artist. She was a founding member of the Syrinx Society and maintains a private studio with flutists of all ages.
