"I really enjoyed the Christian Ethics for Leaders course. I feel it has given me a great foundation on how to conduct myself in the business world."

Policies

Leadership students begin their program by enrolling in the "Foundations of Leadership Studies" course. Once Foundations is completed, students may enroll in any other leadership course. In some cases, Foundations may be taken as a co-requisite during the same semester as another leadership course.

Students wanting to take leadership courses as electives should also enroll in the Foundations of Leadership Studies course first--or have already completed the Introduction to Management course through the College of Business.

Students must take "Christian Ethics for Leaders" during their time in the program and "Leadership Seminar" during their last semester in the program. In addition, students choose 12 hours of LDSP elective courses to fulfill the 21 semester-hours required for the minor. To aid in your scheduling, the program director can inform you of the special topics and workshops courses scheduled for upcoming semesters.

A limited number of scholarships are available to LDSP students. To receive and maintain a scholarship, a 3.2 grade point average in all coursework at HSU and a 3.2 grade point average in leadership classes is required. If a student's overall or leadership grade point average drops below a 3.2, the student will be placed on probation. If the overall and/or leadership g.p.a. does not rise above 3.2 during the semester on probation, the student will lose his/her scholarship. Only one semester of probation is allowed throughout the program.

In addition to the grade point average requirement, students on scholarship must also make continued progress toward the minor. Three hours toward the minor must be earned by the end of the first year on scholarship, nine by the end of the second year, 15 by the end of the third, and 21 hours earned by the end of the fourth year on scholarship. Students who complete the minor before their senior year may continue to receive the scholarship provided that the student maintains a 3.2 overall grade point average. Scholarship applications are accepted and reviewed during the spring semester of each year.

Students in the Leadership Studies Program should be beyond reproach with respect to honesty and integrity. Cheating will not be tolerated in any fashion. Cheating in any HSU class can result in lose of the leadership scholarship.
