Two HSU athletic training alumni were honored by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association at the NATA Clinical Symposium in Indianapolis, IN. Rick Redden (’95) and D.J. Gililland, Jr. (’98) received the Athletic Trainer Service Award in June, 2014. Redden is an athletic trainer at Saginaw High School which is in the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw Independent School District in the Fort Worth area. Gililland just became an assistant professor and Clinical Education Coordinator for HSU’s CAATE-accredited athletic training program, after serving as HSU’s Head Athletic Trainer since 2006. They are the second and third members of the HSU program to receive this award; program director David Stuckey received the same award in 2012.
Redden’s service has included leading the North Texas Athletic Trainer Society and committee service with the Southwest Athletic Trainers’ Association (SWATA) and National Athletic Trainers’ Association. Gililland has long served on various SWATA committees, including chairing the SWATA Communications Committee and serving as SWATA’s webmaster for several years.
We are proud of these alumni and their service to the athletic training profession. They serve as great examples of professional service to our undergraduate students.
