Sandy Self, J.D. is an Associate Professor for the Department of Political Science and the Director of Legal Studies at Hardin-Simmons University. Professor Self is an attorney with over 17 years of experience. Prior to joining the faculty at Hardin Simmons, she served as a prosecutor and has trial experience in hundreds of criminal cases, including but not limited to: capital murder, murder, rape, robbery, kidnapping, manslaughter, burglary and assault. Professor Self has handled appellate cases in the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, the Fifth Circuit Federal Court of Appeals, the Eastland Court of Appeals, and in the United States Supreme Court. Professor Self also served several years as a civil litigation specialist for Child Protective Services where she traveled throughout Texas handling complex parental rights termination cases on behalf of abused and neglected children.
Professor Self received a Bachelor of Journalism
from the University of Texas in Austin and her Doctorate of
Jurisprudence from Texas Tech University School of Law. She has been
Board Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal
Specialization. She is licensed to practice in all Texas Courts, in the
Northern District of Texas Federal Courts, in the Fifth Circuit Federal
Court of Appeals, and in the United States Supreme Court.
