Audition Requirements
for HSU Department of Theatre BFA/Scholarship Auditions
BFA - Acting
All applicants interested
in auditioning for the BFA degree in Acting must select an audition date and
prepare the following audition materials in addition to the required
application forms online.
Acting Audition Requirements:
- Perform
two age-appropriate, contrasting monologues:
- One classical piece
from a play written prior to 1930 with an emphasis on heightened language/verse
- One contemporary piece
written post 1930 to today
- (Have a third
monologue of your choice prepared if so requested)
- Monologues
must not exceed one (1) minute each
- Applicants
must have read the entire play from which the monologue comes in order to
comprehend the given circumstances of the character
- A
chair will be provided for your audition should it be needed
- Please
provide a resume and recent headshot or photograph
BFA
- Musical Theatre
All applicants
interested in auditioning for the BFA in Musical Theatre must follow the
audition requirement set forth above for Acting in addition to the following:
Musical
Theatre Audition Requirements
(an
accompanist will be provided):
- Perform
two contrasting Broadway songs (one Golden Age and one contemporary) – 32 bars or one verse and one chorus (show off a
little!) – have a third song prepared if so requested
- One ballad
- One "up
tempo"
- Please
bring fake book or provide proper sheet music in the correct key for your
selections
- At
the end of the auditions, all Musical Theatre applicants will reunite to
participate in a basic group choreography session taught by a faculty member –
please bring appropriate dance attire to change into.
