• Masters of Music in Theory and Composition

    This challenging and rigorous 30 hour program culminates with a composition recital of new music and a thesis in composition or analysis. Students with a theory emphasis must write a thesis on a topic chosen in consultation with their advisor. The thesis for students with a composition emphasis is a piece for large forces. Composition emphasis students must also write and present a substantial analysis paper on a topic chosen in consultation with their advisor. All degree students must pass written and oral comprehensive exams. Graduates of this program and the BM in Theory Composition are working in the fields of music ministry, administration, music education, and as professional composer/arrangers.
