    Bachelor of Arts
    Bachelor of Behavioral Science

A major in Sociology consists of 30 semester hours. This can be acquired through two different degree plans. Although the major required courses are the same for both, the general degree requirements differ, giving the student flexibility in their studies. The Bachelor of Arts program provides an opportunity for students to take a foreign language, which may be useful in advanced degree programs. The Bachelor of Behavioral Science requires more hours in the social sciences and is useful for students seeking greater breadth in these areas. Required courses are: SOCI 1301, 2302, 3312, 3380, 4380, & 4390 plus 12 additional hours. At least 21 hours must be taken at the 3000 and 4000 level. Three hours of philosophy are required. Six hours of sociology will apply toward the social science requirement. In order to satisfy HSU’s computer competency requirement, students must successfully complete CSCI 1303 or pass the CLEP for CSCI 1303.

    Minor in Sociology

Eighteen hours are required for a minor in sociology. Required courses are 1301, plus the student’s choice of an additional 15 hours, 12 of which must be taken at the 3000 and 4000 level.
