Spanish Program News and Events

The Department of Foreign Languages has numerous new initiatives for 2009 - 2010:

>Campbell Routh Endowed Scholar for The Year Named
Ms. Kaki Spronz, daughter of Tim & Debora Spronz of Grapevine has been named the Campbell Routh Endowed Scholar for the year. In that capacity, Kaki will be helping promote the study of foreign languages and coordinating associated activities on campus.

>Tertulia Espanola
Spanish majors and minors (and alumni in town) are invited to attend monthly meetings for study, enrichment and FUN! Don't miss the food and fun on October 8, November 2 and December 4 at 6:30 -- place to be announced outside laboratory.

>TERTULIA OPENING Party Held
At the home of Drs. Dennis and Janelle O'connell for a picnic and pool event, but rain stopped the swim. However, the group all enjoyed getting to know each other and having hot dogs, hamburgers and s'mores!

>Salamanca Semester 2010 is Being Planned
If you have had at least 1 year of Spanish and would like to study in Salamanca for a semester, please contact Dr. Taylor or Kaki.

>Attention Education Majors
A new degree certifying you to teach Spanish EC-12 is being required by the state, and the new tests will reflect that degree. HSU is in the process of updating the catalog to reflect the new requirements. If you are currently a Spanish Education majors, be alert to a meeting to be held soon to give you updated information.
