New Governor Gets Texas Size Welcome from HSU’s Cowboy Band and Six White Horses

World Famous Cowboy Band and Six White Horse team will travel to Austin for the governor's inaugural parade.

Hardin-Simmons University’s Cowboy Band and Six White Horse team were invited to be a part of the Governor Elect Greg Abbott’s inaugural parade on January 20, 2015, in Austin.

Debra Jones, Director of the Six White Horses Program, expressed gratitude towards the invitation. “It’s a part of our heritage. It’s an honor to be invited,” said Jones.

HSU has been involved in the parade more than nine times since 1927.

Junior music and composition major and Cowboy Band member, Caleb Wardle from Pilot Point, expressed his excitement for the parade. “I got really excited when I heard about it. I think it’s cool that people still love our spirit that we would be invited to show off our Cowboy Band Pride,” said Wardle.

Hardin-Simmons was one of only four bands in Texas invited to attend the Inaugural parade.

Dr. Wayne Dorothy, Director of Bands and Professor of Music, spoke with confidence about the bands participation, “We do special events like this frequently. We just hope to continue to build reputation and excellence of the band,” said Dorothy.

Each year the Cowboy Band and the Six White Horses team perform at events all over the state. For more information on the band or the Six White Horses, visit the Cowboy Band or the Six White Horses
