Minnie Scott, instructor of nursing for Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2014.

“Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing and Hardin-Simmons University were fortunate to have Minnie as a faculty member,” said Tommy Brisco, HSU provost and chief academic officer. “She [Minnie] had a deep passion for training students to become skilled and compassionate care givers. She will be missed by all of us.”

With more than 20 years of combined nursing and nursing education experience, Scott, who also served as clinical coordinator for the Certified Nurse Aide program, viewed her service as a way to give back to the community and students struggling to enter the healthcare field.

“My life’s mission as a nurse, and now as an instructor, has been in service to others,” said Scott in her faculty application. “As a nurse I have devoted my life to helping others. Now, as an instructor, my mission is two-fold: to my students and the patients they care for. I am truly blessed that God set me on the path of an instructor.”

Nina Ouimette, dean of the Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing said, “Minnie will be missed by all. She truly enriched lives of all of those she touched.”

Funeral services were held on Friday, September 26 at the Bailey Howard Funeral Home Chapel with Dan Murray officiating. Scott was laid to rest at the Ross Cemetery in Baird.
