HSU Spring “Breakers” Travel the World

Several groups from HSU split the globe during the week of Spring Break.

Students ventured all over the world for spring break. Leadership Studies explored New York City, Logsdon Seminary traveled to Greece, Baptist Student Ministries went to Ireland, Student Life covered nine national parks in 8 days and another group went skiing in Colorado.

Students in New York City explored Ellis Island along with the Statue of Liberty, subways, Chinatown, Ground Zero and the 9/11 Memorial Museum, The Museum of Natural History, Times Square, and attended a Broadway show.

Colby Mears, sophomore management and marketing major from Springtown, said “The trip was a lot of fun, and my favorite part was spending the week with the group. HSU is a well-connected campus, and trips like this give us the opportunity to really bond.”

Logsdon students visited places such as the Acropolis, the Temple of Zeus, Ancient Corinth, Aegean Sea and the Olympic Stadium. More importantly the group helped the organization “PORTA” who help Albanian refugees in giving English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to adults and children.

Yessi Juarez, graduate student from San Antonio, said, “After coming back from Greece, I am overwhelmed at what God is doing in all of the people who serve their community. It makes HSU better, because it allows for students to be out of the classroom and gives them the ability to experience more.

Students on the National Parks trip ventured as far as Utah to visit parks. Among the parks were the Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest National Park, Horseshoe Bend and Arches National Park.

Erika Sparkman, senior criminal justice major from Ponder, said, “It was such a blessing to get to spend time with my closest friends before graduating.  I would encourage anyone to go if they have the opportunity.”

Spring break is just one of the many opportunities that students have to travel with Hardin-Simmons University.  HSU also offers many international courses that are held year round in places such as Italy, China, Indonesia, England, Spain, Austria, and Australia.
